Discussion 1 Module 1

Q Discussion 1: The first discussion addresses issues in the automotive industry and the external environment impacting that industry (MO1.1, 1.2, 1.3). Keep in mind that we are limiting the focus to the electric vehicle (EV) market, although some general aspects of the automotive market will also impact the EV market. Students are expected to actively participate in this discussion. A great deal of learning occurs when we learn from each other, and your participation is necessary in order to have the best class possible. . Thus, it is essential that students read the class materials before attempting the discussion board. You must complete your first post by 23:59 EST on Saturday of the Module week and all remaining posts no later than 23:59 EST on Sunday of the Module week. Would you please note that the system states the due date is Sunday - that is the final due date for the entire activity - please consider posting your initial post prior to Saturday to give your colleagues enough time to digest your post and to respond to it thoughtfully. If you are referencing an article, be sure to provide a link to that article in your post. Please do not copy and paste an article directly into the discussion board. Also, please do not upload a Word file as your post into the discussion board. Prompt: Here are the discussion questions to start the week. You need to address at least two of these questions, but your responses to other students can take the discussion in a multitude of other directions. Try to keep this week's discussion addressing the external environment. If you quote from any source - it must be noted at the end of your discussion. 1. Do you think that the EV market in the US will continue to grow at the current rate given the trend of deregulation and relaxation of CAFE standards suggested by the current administration? 2. How do you think the European EV market differs from the US EV market? What are the differences within various regions of Europe? 3. How can/should automakers address the driver distraction issue when using Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)? What should they be doing? Please see below for grading information. Instructions: 1. Make your initial post by 23:59 EST Saturday of Week 1. 2. Students must respond to at least two questions and respond to two (2) of the other classmates' posts by 23:59 EST Sunday. (Thus, you have a 'post' - answering at least 2 questions in your post and then you must respond to at least 2 other classmates posts - this totals three (3) items. 3. Keep in mind that each post, regardless of whether or not you are responding to a question or another post, must add value to the discussion. Students very likely will need to complete outside research to support their posts, so links to outside articles that provide evidence are appropriate. Simply stating that the question or post is good or that you agree is not sufficient for full credit. See the grading rubric for further details.

The transition from conventional cars to electric vehicles has become a hot topic. Electric vehicles offer lower maintenance costs, new technology, cheaper prices, and save customers money on fuel. In addition, EV’s produce less emissions and help the environment which has become increasingly popular regarding climate change. During the rest of this discussion, I will compare the European EV market versus the US EV market and talk about the driver distraction issue for automakers.
